WHEN CAN I OPEN MY DOOR?
Cheri Mundt Dedicated to All Older Adults Feeling Isolated During the Pandemic
December 12, 2020
When can I open my door…
and see my neighbors, in the hallway, to visit like we always do
to invite them in my apartment
to catch up on how they feel and what they have been doing
When can I open my door…
and go to the dining room to my normal seat and greet my friends as they come in
catch the aromas of the meal they are cooking
review the menu and make my choice of entrees
visit and joke with the staff as they come to request my order
When can I open my door…
to decorate my door for Christmas; its my tradition
to see the building holiday decorations
to be able to take a ride with my family and view and enjoy the community decorations
When can I open my door…
and go to the gym and exercise so my joints aren’t so stiff and sore
to at least walk the halls so I can continue to walk on my own
When can I open my door…
and attend activities to keep my mind active, laugh with my friends and help the time pass
When can I open my door…
and let my family into my room, hug them and catch up on what everyone is doing
to be able to hold my spouse and share my fears, my love and hold their hand
When can I open my door…
and go outside to feel the breeze on my skin, enjoy the warmth of the sun and spend a holiday at the home of my family
When can I open my door…
to walk to the mailboxes, visit with others on the way and pick up my own mail
When can I open my door…
to say hello and visit with the staff like we always do, as they pass by my door
When can I open my door… and be me again.
